black sheep 黑绵羊在英文俚语中，是指败家子、家最不成材的孩子或害群之马。
这首带有励志色彩的歌曲，原作者是法国的民歌手贾克斯布瑞尔（Jacques Brel），经由也是歌手的美国朋友洛德麦昆（Rod MaKuen）翻成英文，才流传到美国。这首曲子原名 Le moribond ，意思是「临终的人」。一九六一年，贾克斯布瑞尔发现自己罹患了癌症，因而写下这首歌，献给他的爸爸、挚友和老婆。
Seasons in the sun 被介绍到美国将来，原本是由当时十分走红的'Beach Boys海滩少年合唱团灌录成单曲，但录完却由于某些缘由决定不发行。后来，参与录音伴奏的泰瑞杰克斯为了追悼一位意料之外死亡的友人，便自己重新录了这首歌，并征得原作词者的赞同，修改了最后一段歌词，也就是大家现在所听到的版本。
一九七三年，泰瑞杰克斯演唱的版本发行于加拿大，大受青睐。后来在英、美两地都登上排名冠军并盛行全球。据统计，这首单曲全球总销量超越 了1100 万张。进入廿一世纪将来，英国的偶像团体西城男生合唱团曾翻唱这首歌，将这首经典老歌再度介绍给了全世界的年轻歌迷。
